While I enjoyed both "Ratatouille" and "The Incredibles", my favorite Brad Bird movie is still "The Iron Giant".

I like that line "he makes his movies for 40 year old kids".

I like that his films skew older. That's probably why I enjoy them so much.

I'll live if the kids fidget now and then if I can do less fidgeting during the movie. And besides, when they're older they can watch it again and get all new stuff out of it.

And I agree... I'm dreading seeing Shrek 3.

Brad Bird operates on a totally different level to everyone else. His films seem to be infused with more character and emotion than everything else out there (Shrek 3, anyone?) - his films have soul.

If there's one criticism I have is that at times he forgets his audience, and his films skew a little older (Incredibles was the first PG Pixar movie), almost like he makes movies for 40 ear old "kids". I saw Ratatouille with my six year old son, and when there were "talky" scenes for exposition he started to fidget, which is not a good sign.

Maybe Bird could use some grounding in User Centered Film Direction?

Hillel,
Ratatouille was great! I really like Pixar movies but I agree that in recent years they were OK. I think for kids they have continued to be great with strong characters that can sell a lot of toys :), but I went to Ratatouille with 6-20 somethings and we all had a great time.
