Blogs Turning Into Newspapers

One of my favorite guilty pleasures when at an airport is to buy the Robb Report. It’s filled with expensive stuff I’ll never buy. But I like looking at all of it. Luxist is my favorite online equivalent. But recently I ran into Born Rich which isn’t half bad either.

I recently noticed Born Rich promoting their own comic strip - Katherine. The strip is not very good. The writing is cliche and the artwork worse. They also missed an opportunity to tie together their comic strip rich lady character and the illustrated rich lady they have in their logo. Not sure why they wouldn’t make Katherine their mascot, but whatever.

What struck me however was that a blog having it’s own comic (supplementing the main content) is an incredibly natural thing to do. Newspapers supplemented their content with comics (that were often the only part folks read). Why not blogs? Blogs are already getting into the job listing business. Why not the funnies as well?

  • Blaugh.com was co-founded by Chris Pirillo on the same principle. :) Apparently one of the comics even shipped in the Snakes on a Plane DVD. Who knew?
